Palau Kakaban, Indonesia: Monday June 20
This small island has a unique Jellyfish lake contained
within a crater within a rainforest. The Jellyfish in the lake have lost their
ability to sting, because they have little or no predators.
Memumbar River and Pulau Birah Birahan: Tuesday June
21
An early morning zodiac cruise up this river didn’t result
in any group seeing significant wildlife apart from isolated birds and a
striped yabbie swimming in the river. Previous tours reported proboscis monkeys
and other wildlife.
The thick, healthy mangrove vegetation showed the level of
nutrients that were available in this river system.
The afternoon visit to Bira Birhan Island showed many corals
and fish with the occasional large sea turtle.
